Kinetic Sand: I received the following private ask
I just started doing in-home therapy and was wondering if you had any ideas about how to bring a sand tray. Mine is way too big and I feel like if I get a smaller one not many miniatures will fit in it. I got one with a lid and sand still pours out the cracks. I like having a wet tray as well but that would be too much to bring and too messy. Also do you have any tips on clean up? I dont think my families would appreciate me spilling sand everywhere.
- Kinetic Sand will solve all of your problems. It is easy to clean up and wont pour out of the sides your tray (or you could transport it in a bag to use your lidless tray). It molds like wet sand, but still has many of the characteristics of dry sand. It feels super cool (even my teens love it) and is a great sensory/fine motor activity.
- Buying Kinetic Sand: The downfall of this stuff is that is can be pretty pricey. I suggest printing a 50% off 1 item coupon from Aaron Brothers, Michael’s Crafts, etc. I have also seen ads for Cra-Z-Sand, which appears to be the same thing.
- Having a smaller sand tray still works pretty well as long as you get smaller miniatures to go with it. Michael’s Craft’s scrapbooking boxes work pretty well as small trays. Below are 2 examples.
